Hide Tan-In!

2

May 3rd – May 12th  …  11am – 6pm

FREE EVENT! All ages welcome.

Come get your paws dirty at this 10-day long put-your-nose-to-the- grindstone-no-nonsense hide tanning event wherein we will (wet) scrape all manner of deer hides and small mammal pelts to create beautiful leathers and finished furs. Some experience needed. This will be less of a workshop and more of a group effort to gain more experience and complete projects. What better way to jump into Spring?!  Folks are also welcome to come by if they just want a little look-see or to give our ambitious Tanners a welcomed break. Wear clothes that can get messy!

Useful Info about what this is all about: here

“Brain tanned leathers are made by a labor-intensive process which uses emulsified oils, often those of animal brains. They are known for their exceptional softness and their ability to be washed.”  Come work for 1 day or all 10, so long as you leave your workspace cleaner than you found it!

  • *Some tools will be available; bring your own animal skins.
  •  **Not recommended “for the faint of stomach”, fyi! You may see guts, hair, tissue, muscle, fat, blood, BRAINS.
