As part of our mission statement we strive to bring community oriented events to our space. With music, workshops, movies, potlucks, bake sales and more, there is often something to look forward to!
April 2013
- Thursday, April 11th 7pm Folk/punk show with Blackbird Raum, False Weavers, Alison-self, Dead Whale Ramblers and the Cosmic Hillbillies. 5 bands, music starts at 7pm sharp! $5-10
- Tuesday April 16th 7pm, Music from Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and Brazil! Ezekiel’s Wheels, Snail Knights, Black Masala and Orchestra Prazevica. Music starts at 8. $5
- Wednesday, April 17th 8pm Presentation by Twin Oaks and the Communities Movement: After 45 years Twin Oaks Community in Central VA is one of the oldest and most established intentional communities in the US, with a focus on egalitarianism, non-violence, and collectivized economics. There are many other communities, both in the US and abroad, also seeking to promote sustainability and social injustice by designing communities based on those values. This presentation will look at a collection of these communities, their strengths and challenges, and what they have to offer as models and examples.
- Saturday, April 27th 9pm, Dance Party! to benefit queer prisoners. 3 DJs and a noise performance. Come dance yer tushy off! $5-
May 2013
- May 3rd-May 12th. Hide Tan-in! 11am-6pm.FREE Event! All ages welcome. Come get your paws dirty at this 10-day long put-your-nose-to-the-
grindstone-no-nonsense hidetanning event wherein we will (wet)scrape all manner of deer hides and small mammal pelts to create beautiful leathers and finished furs. Some experience needed. This will be less of a workshop and more of a group effort to gain more experience and complete projects. What better way to jump into Spring?! Folks are also welcome to come by if they just want a little look-see or to give our ambitious Tanners a welcomed break. Wear clothes that can get messy! Come work for 1 day or all 10, so long as you leave your workspace cleaner than you found it!
*Some tools will be available; bring your own animal skins.
**Not recommended “for the faint of stomach”, fyi! You may see guts, hair, tissue, muscle, fat, blood, BRAINS.
