Community Composting

Neighborhood Compost Drop-Off
The Baltimore Free Farm operates a community-run composting program for residents in the surrounding neighborhoods. We welcome compostable materials delivered in 5-gallon buckets or similar reusable containers.

Drop-Off Details

When dropping off materials, please:

  • Leave your compost in a bucket or container with a secure lid (helps reduce orders and prevents pests).

  • Place your bucket by the composting bin site on Wednesdays anytime before 5:30 PM.

  • Clearly separate any non-compostable materials (e.g. produce stickers, plastic, rubber bands, twist ties).

  • Do not add materials directly to compost piles unless a compost team member is present.

Compost is processed:

  • Every Wednesday from 5:30 PM–7:00 PM

  • During volunteer workdays, typically held on the third Saturday of each month

Learn With Us

Please do not process compost materials on your own without supervision. If you are interested in learning how our composting system works, we encourage you to join the Baltimore Free Farm composting team during compost processing hours. We are happy to teach community members about composting and help build local composting knowledge and skills.
